Fear of new measures to stem the epidemic are encouraging many French people to anticipate their Christmas shopping. Examples in Bordeaux (Gironde) and Lille (Nord).
A dense crowd and elbow-to-elbow passers-by. Three weeks before Christmas, in the streets of Bordeaux (Gironde) it’s already the race for gifts. Many customers prefer to travel even if it means going ahead. “I don’t want to relive the hell of last Christmas when I got into it at the last minute”, explains a young woman. Once again this year, the Covid-19 epidemic is on everyone’s mind.
In Lille (North), with the fifth wave and the progression of the Omicron variant, customers fear possible new health restrictions. The government could announce additional measures following the health defense council scheduled for Monday, December 6. Everyone gets organized as the holidays approach: “I work weekdays so I reserve weekends to do my shopping”, says a local resident. Hydroalcoholic gel and barrier gestures must be observed in order to try to do your Christmas shopping in peace.
