The freedom convoys are on their way to Paris. However, they are forbidden to enter the capital. A decision taken by the prefect of police who fears the risk of disturbing public order.
Paris is still 700 km away, but motorists from Nîmes intend to be there on the evening of Friday February 11. “We are determined, we will go all the way”, they launch. No request for a demonstration has been submitted, and the prefect of Paris has announced what awaits the participants of the “liberty convoy” in the event of obstruction of traffic: up to two years in prison, a fine of 4,500 euros and the impoundment of their vehicle. “We will pass. We’ll see after“, assures a woman.
Others recall that Paris is not their final destination. “The goal is not to block or enter Paris, it’s just a stage on the way to Brussels”, confides a motorist. The Belgian authorities have also announced the prohibition of access to the convoy, which is due to arrive on Monday 14 February. In the meantime, on the roads of Brittany or in Avignon (Vaucluse), participants can count on the signs of support they encounter. “People need this energy, this movement, and want this convoy to arrive“, confides a sympathizer. Whatever the number of participants, the “freedom convoy“has reached its first stage: making itself visible.
