A must-see in the French-speaking festival landscape, Rock en Seine is back for its 20th edition, from August 21 to 25 at the gates of Paris. On the program for this next edition, international stars like Lana Del Rey, scheduled to open the festival for her only date in France this year, but also DJ Fred again, LCD Soundsystem, Måneskin, Massive Attack, PJ Harvey, The Offspring or The Smile.

Among these international heavyweights, Franceinfo offers you some musical discoveries which will also be performing on the festival stages this year.

Glass Beams

Picture the setting: three members wearing bejeweled glass masks, armed with two electric guitars and a drum kit. It’s the perfect recipe to take you on a journey. An Australian musical trio from Melbourne, Glass Beams was founded by Rajan Silva in 2020 during the covid-19 pandemic (the identities of the other two members are still unknown to the public). Their debut EP, Mirage, was released in June 2021.

Their style mixes synth, rock, psychedelic and oriental instrumentals. The members are inspired by traditional Indian popular music and Western rock. A true fusion of styles in their self-produced works, which combine live instruments with electronic elements. Enough to take the spectators on a journey during their performance at Rock en Seine, which will take place on Saturday, August 24 at 4:40 p.m.

Towa Bird

From Olivia Rodrigo’s guitarist to a rising figure in queer pop, it’s hard to resist the rock energy of this brilliant young artist. She recently told the magazine The Facelaughing, that she wanted to become the “Paul McCartney lesbian“, and we understand why. Towa Bird’s journey is like a world tour in itself. Born in Hong Kong to British-Filipino parents, the singer spent her childhood between her hometown and Thailand, before continuing her studies in London, and finally devoting herself to music.

She became Olivia Rodrigo’s guitarist and then signed solo with Interscope. Her EP Live from Terminal 5recorded in concert, offers us an exciting glimpse of her dynamic performances. Among her inspirations: Jimi Hendrix, Prince and Pink Floyd. We have no doubt that Towa Bird will set the Rock en Seine stage on fire on Wednesday, August 21.

The Last Dinner Party

Already tipped as the 2024 sensation by the magazine VogueThe Last Dinner Party ticks all the boxes of the rock band and breaks all the codes. Composed of five young English women, the reputation of the group led by Abigail Morris is only due to their exploration of small London venues, such as the Moth Club or the XOYO.

In July 2022, they played for the first time with the Rolling Stones in Hyde Park, less than a year after a first concert in November 2021. The English women manage to please everyone thanks to their passion and a theatrical aspect with a debauched atmosphere that seems to have its effect.

SOYUUZ

It all started in 2017, when the rock band KubE, bringing together professional musicians and young adults with disabilities, became SOYUUZ. The project led by HandyArtMix and Artis Facta, two associations in the Nantes metropolitan area, consists of offering people with disabilities the opportunity to compose, to express themselves through art and music, in order to escape isolation and create together.

SOYUUZ was then formed, and brought on board Amina, Clément, Kyro, Darell, Martin, Olvier, Jérôme, as well as Jean-François and Julien Corbet to provide bass and drums. In 2019, a former educator and musicians gathered around their passion for post-punk with the aim of forming the collective SOYUUZ.

Since 2021, they have been accompanied by a professional bassist and drummer to replace their drum machine. This original formation is currently preparing its first album. Excerpts from this first project will be broadcast at Rock en Seine, and spectators will be able to applaud this unique team on Sunday, August 25.
