A surprise guest during the opening ceremony. The COP28 leaders’ summit on climate kicked off in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) on Friday, December 1. More than 140 heads of state take the podium, summoned to announce how they intend to increase their commitments to resolve an ever more threatening climate crisis.

To launch these two days of summit, Brazilian President Lula and King Charles III gave speeches. But also Sheikh Zayed ben Sultan Al-Nahyan, who died in 2004.
