Mentalities are changing… to the great displeasure of Geneviève de Fontenay. In December 2021, Elisabeth Moreno, Minister Delegate for Gender Equality, spoke in favor of changes to the Miss France competition and thanks to which transgender candidates can now present themselves. A shock for the former president of the Committee who, according to information from the association for the fight against discrimination and anti-LGBT hatred, STOP homophobia, would have reacted in a press release by taking offense at a “deep insult to the sixty years of my life during which I fought to give Miss France a respected and respectable image, which highlights young girls who are healthy in body and mind […] Miss France is not an unnatural contest! It is an election that symbolizes elegance in a healthy and national atmosphere! We have to stop destroying the image of Miss France!”
Remarks which had aroused strong reactions and provoked the anger of the association which had not failed to file a complaint for “insults and incitement to transphobic discrimination”. A complaint that could cost Geneviève de Fontenay dearly who, according to STOP homophobia, would have been indicted this Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

Andréa Furet, first transgender candidate
As a reminder, Andréa Furet was the first transgender candidate to participate in a regional election of Miss France. She had presented herself in the election of Miss Île-de-France 2022, but had not been selected among the five finalists. A blow for the latter who thought she would find her place in the competition. “I admit that it’s a little surprise for me not to be part of the finalists but I was very supported and I gave the maximum, that’s all that matters”, she confided, not without a hint of disappointment, in the columns of the Figaro. And to conclude: “I am very proud to be the first to register his name but also of what I gave during this election. I leave with a lot of emotion and the feeling of accomplishment”.
