Chantal Bertrand, the wife of the ex-politician, announced the death of André Lavallée on Facebook Sunday evening.

André Lavallée was borough mayor and vice-president of the Montréal executive committee from 2005 to 2009, under the banner of Union Montréal. He has also held several positions in the Government of Quebec and in several cultural organizations in Montreal.
In particular, he contributed to setting up the Bixi bike-sharing service.
