The largest forest in Brittany has been on fire since Thursday August 11. About 300 hectares of the mythical forest of Brocéliande, in Morbihan, have already gone up in smoke. Friday, August 12, at the end of the day, the fire was two-thirds contained, in a restricted area. But unfavorable winds and high temperatures favored its progress.
In their fight against the flames, the firefighters mobilized were able to count on the help of two Swedish Canadair, a bomber helicopter and a Dash plane specially detached from the South West. Local farmers also came to help. Faced with the advancing fire, some of them feared the worst for their animals. Near the forest, no homes were destroyed, but 150 people had to be evacuated as a precaution.
