According to information from France Bleu Provence, the disciplinary committee of the Mediterranean football league granted, on Thursday June 9, a dismissal to FC Septèmes (Bouches-du-Rhône), beaten by Arles on May 8 22-1 . Following suspicions of match fixing, in order to allow Arles to inflate its goal difference and therefore to be promoted to Regional 1, the league sends the file to the public prosecutor of Aix-en-Provence.
With France Bleu Provence, the president of the league, Eric Borghini, denounces this result which he defines as “a mess”. “Justice, if it decides, will have means of investigation that the athlete does not have. We have talked about this case all over the world. We want to show that we are committed to ethics”, he added. During the match, a goal was scored every four minutes. Another surprising fact, the goalkeeper of FC Septèmes did not wear gloves for the meeting.
Aware that justice will not solve the basic problems, the president of the Mediterranean league will propose to his clubs, on June 25, to vote on a modification of the regulations. The end of the championships will no longer be judged on the goal average in the event of equality of points in the classification. The difference will be made thanks to the direct confrontations between the two teams. If there is still a tie, the team with the fewest cards in the season will be rewarded.
