Thousands of volunteers are mobilizing during the weekend of Saturday November 25 and Sunday November 26, for the Food Bank’s major annual collection. In 2022, the operation made it possible to collect the equivalent of 2.5 million meals in Île-de-France.
Three days of collection, to collect as many foodstuffs and hygiene products as possible throughout France. With inflation, demand for food aid is increasing, and solidarity is essential. “We must share in life, we must help those who need it”, estimates a woman in a supermarket in Bidart (Pyrénées-Atlantiques). Around 110,000 volunteers are mobilized during the weekend.
More and more students
Once collected, donations from each region are stored in warehouses. In Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), the collection already seems to be off to a good start. “She is a little more advanced than last year at the same time“, confides a member of the Food Banks. Among those in need, more and more students are turning to donations. In 2023, 2.4 million people will depend on food aid, three times more than ‘in 2013.
