Fewer and fewer cases of flu in France. The epidemic continued to decline last week, with a drop observed in six of the 13 regions of France, Public Health France announced on Wednesday March 8. In the other seven regions, influenza activity remained stable. Eleven out of 13 regions remain in the epidemic phase, the agency said. The epidemic, which started quite early, subsided at the start of the year but then saw a small rebound, partly fueled by a different strain of the virus.

This season is also characterized by “marked severity, particularly among 15-44 year olds and 45-64 year olds”, underlines Public Health France. Overseas, the West Indies were still in epidemic, while Mayotte returned to the pre-epidemic phase after a first epidemic wave.

The bronchiolitis epidemic, which mainly strikes babies, for its part ended in mainland France two weeks ago.
