The five suspects in the Pogba case who have been in police custody since Wednesday, including brother Mathias Pogba, have been indicted and remanded in custody, franceinfo learned on Saturday September 17. Mathias Pogba is indicted on counts of “extortion in an organized gang” and “participation in a criminal association with a view to preparing a crime”.

Four other people, childhood friends of Paul Pogba, were also indicted and imprisoned, on counts of “extortion with a weapon in an organized gang”, “arrest, kidnapping, sequestration or arbitrary detention to prepare or facilitate the commission of a crime or misdemeanor” and “participation in a criminal association with a view to the preparation of a crime”.

Friday, September 16, Mathias Pogba had admitted during his police custody to be at the origin of the video broadcast on the internet at the end of August, where he threatened to make revelations about his brother Paul Pogba. The brother of the French international explained to have taken the initiative but not to have written the text and to have recorded it with another with a heavy criminal past, considered the main suspect in this case by the investigators.

Mathias Pogba denies for his part having participated in the confinement of his brother in a Parisian apartment. Paul Pogba explained that he had been trapped by childhood friends and two hooded men armed with assault rifles, claiming 13 million euros from him.

The other four suspects, childhood friends of the Blues midfielder, admit to having taken advantage of the generosity of Paul Pogba and to have lobbied for him to pay the sum of 13 million euros. They claim to have done this against their will, forced and threatened by a criminal group.
