Eclipsed by the riots in New Caledonia, the campaign for the European elections is nevertheless entering its home stretch. Less than a month before the June 9 election, Marine Le Pen and then political leaders from the main parties were questioned on their economic vision of the future of the European Union, Thursday May 16, in “L’Evénement” on France 2.

In the political department, were present the environmentalist senator Yannick Jadot, the Minister of Ecological Transition, Christophe Béchu, the deputies Aurélien Pradié (Les Républicains), Boris Vallaud (Socialist Party), Clémence Guetté (La France Insoumise) and Jean-Philippe Tanguy (National gathering). In the first part of the broadcast, Marine Le Pen, who appears in last position on the National Rally (RN) list, answered questions from Caroline Roux. Franceinfo looks back at the five sequences to remember from the show.

On the climate, Marine Le Pen refuses to “flagellate” herself

Asked about the ecological transition and the climate crisis, Marine Le Pen criticized the environmental standards in force in France and Europe, which in her eyes affect the competitiveness of businesses. “I do not want rules to be applied to us that kill economic sectors“, she insisted. She notably estimated that the energy performance diagnosis (DPE), which makes it possible to classify housing according to their energy consumption, “kills the real estate sector“.

If France disappeared, it would change absolutely nothing about the climate. (…) What is France’s carbon footprint? Less than 1% globally”launched Marine Le Pen, taking up a contested argument, this figure not taking into account the CO2 emissions of products imported into France and the weight of France in past emissions. “Rather than beating ourselves up, can’t we share our experience in decarbonization with others?“, added Marine Le Pen.

She says she is ready to debate with Emmanuel Macron “if he puts his resignation on the table”

The hypothesis of a debate between Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen before the European elections is agitating the political class. The leader of the RN deputies responded to this possibility by posing her own demands: “If he puts his resignation or the dissolution of the National Assembly on the table, I will debate with pleasure”evacuates Marine Le Pen.

When you are President of the Republic (…), seither we enter the partisan debate or we don’t. But at that moment, we must draw the consequences if we lose the elections.” explained the MP.

A tense exchange between Christophe Béchu and Yannick Jadot on pesticides

During the debate that followed, the Minister of Ecological Transition, Christophe Béchu, attacked environmentalist senator Yannick Jadot. The former mayor of Angers deplored the attitude of the Greens in the European Parliament, who participated in the rejection, in November, of legislation aimed at halving the use of pesticides at EU level. by 2030.

The Greens considered that the text was not restrictive enough. “The left and the Greens said: ‘It’s not ambitious enough’. The far right said: ‘It goes too far’. (…) When everyone takes refuge in their radicalism, in the end, nothing happens. It’s a posture that goes against the wall.”, estimated Christophe Béchu. “Spain was against, Italy was against, Germany was against”Yannick Jadot strongly responded, criticizing the new indicator for measuring the use of pesticides provided for by the text, and finally implemented in France: “Teveryone considers that your indicator is misleading“, believes the former MEP.

Clémence Guetté and Aurélien Pradié oppose Stellantis boss Carlos Tavares on protectionism

We have not given ourselves the means to race with China“, regretted the general director of the Stellantis automobile group, Carlos Tavares, invited to debate with representatives of the Socialist Party, La France Insoumise and the Republicans.

Racing is not sustainable.”, replied LFI MP Clémence Guetté, pointing out the ecological weight of the search for such growth. “L“The average American’s lifestyle is 4.5 planets per year.”she argued, in reference to the contested concept of “overshoot day”. What you have to do is choose what you need“.

LR Aurélien Pradié joined her in defending protectionism. “We must produce chickens at home rather than looking for them on the other side of the world.“, says the elected official from Lot

Boris Vallaud gives Carlos Tavares his proposed law on salary caps

Pleading for better sharing of wealth, the socialist deputy Boris Vallaud took advantage of the presence of Carlos Tavares to give him a printed version of the bill he tabled at the beginning of May to regulate salary gaps in companies from 1 to 20, which he threw to the boss of Stellantis.

A little earlier in the show, the latter had been questioned by Caroline Roux about his very controversial remuneration, which can reach up to 36 million euros for 2023. Recalling that this amount largely depended on the results of the car manufacturer , Carlos Tavares responded that if the law prohibited such remuneration, he would comply with it.

Grabbing Boris Vallaud’s papers, Carlos Tavares asked him if the text had already been adopted, before replying: “You will give it to me when it is voted on!”
