Officially presented in its production version at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show, the electric SUV from Henrik Fisker’s new company can now be ordered by the first reservation holders in Canada and we know its prices.
The Fisker Ocean is available in four trim levels: Sport, Ultra, Extreme and One (introductory edition). The first starts at $43,999 plus shipping and preparation, which qualifies it for federal and provincial grants totaling $12,000.
We’re talking about a model with a single engine, front-wheel drive and 20 or 22-inch wheels. It generates 275 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 97 km/h in 6.9 seconds in addition to offering a range estimated at 402 kilometers according to the company’s calculations based on EPA standards in the United States. The exact figure from Natural Resources Canada has not yet been announced.
On the inside
The vegan interior stands out with eco-friendly and recycled materials. Included amenities include a 17.1-inch center touchscreen (which flips from vertical while driving to horizontal for watching movies during stops), a premium Fisker sound system, a panoramic roof ( non-opening) called BigSky, a digital rearview mirror and a mobile app that turns the phone into a key.
Fisker Intelligent Pilot technology includes automatic emergency braking, forward and side collision warning, traffic sign and traffic light recognition, blind spot monitoring, driver drowsiness detection and driver assist. keeping on track.
Starting with the Ocean Ultra ($63,999), the vehicle adopts a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration, its power and range climb to 540 horsepower and 547 kilometers respectively, while acceleration time drops to 3.9 seconds.
Other safety devices are added such as reverse braking assistance, then the California mode makes it possible to transform the Ocean into a convertible: the windows lower and the sliding roof retracts automatically when you press a button.
High-end versions
The Extreme and One versions ($89,999) reach 550 horsepower and only need 3.6 seconds to complete the same sprint. They can travel an estimated 563 kilometers. Additions include the 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, park assist, Fisker HyperSound audio system, limo mode and games on the center screen.
But above all, there is this roof called SolarSky which can recharge the battery to the point of providing up to 3,200 additional kilometers of autonomy per year in optimal conditions, according to Fisker.
Production of the Fisker Ocean is scheduled to begin November 17, 2022 at Magna-Steyr’s factory in Graz, Austria, as the two companies are partners. The first deliveries in Canada, however, are scheduled for June 2023. The Ocean will join a growing list of electric SUVs on the market, including the Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Volkswagen ID. 4.
By the way, Fisker will have a concierge service to personally deliver vehicles to customers. There will be no dealerships, only experience centers to introduce the brand to the general public. The question of maintenance and repairs remains to be clarified.
