Some supermarkets are expecting a rush on self-tests in big box stores. The government announced that on an exceptional basis and until January 31, covid self-tests would no longer be available only in pharmacies but also in supermarkets. The monopoly of self-tests with green crosses is over! This government decision is a response to cope with the increased incidence rate. Brands like Leclerc and Super U quickly expressed their satisfaction with being able to market them. In Béarn and Bigorre, we will be able to find some in the coming days and it has even started.
The first sales in Ibos and Orthez
Overall, it’s trickle-down and it fluctuates from store to store. At Leclerc d’Orthez and Leclerc du Méridien in Ibos, they made their arrival. As of Tuesday more than a hundred boxes were sold. With one constraint: no more than one box per customer. These were boxes of five self-tests in Ibos. Thursday in the day, there should be again. A order has been placed for nearly 10,000 self-tests but without the certainty of having them because it depends on stocks. Apparently stocks are limited.
Around € 10 for the box of 5 self-tests
Some told us that at Leclerc, it is at cost price: it is € 1.95 per box for a self-test and € 9.75 per box of 5. Super U undertakes to sell them at the same price. Another example, at the Intermarché in Soumoulou and that of Serres-Castet, it is ordered and being delivered, we are told. At Lidl, the self-tests should arrive within 10 days and at Carrefour, from Friday, maybe even before.
