After the last “mustraka”, the final dress rehearsal of last weekend, the inhabitants of Musculdy will finally be able to present the first performance of the pastoral Simone Veil, this Sunday at 4:30 p.m. The twenty scenes and more than two hundred verses written by Battitta Berrogain retrace the journey of one of the most famous victims of Nazism, who later became a political leader and symbol of the fight for women. A survivor of the death camps, Simone Veil fought for women’s rights to abortion, for Europe and for her career as a writer.
Maialen Urrutiaguer, 22, will play the role of Simone Veil and will sing 4 of the 11 songs supervised by Sophie Larrandaburu, the pastoral choirmaster. The staging is by Maite Davant. Originally from Arrast Larrebieu, she has already participated in four other pastorals as an actress and for the first time she accepted to take on the role of errejent (director). At 49, she recognizes that it is a real personal challenge that is part of the transmission. Since the beginning of January, every weekend, Maite Davant has led a team of one hundred actors, singers and dancers by imagining the different movements on stage.
Three representations of the pastoral are planned in Musculdy, on July 24 and 31 and August 6
