This text is part of the special book Plaisirs

From August 5 to 7, the First Fridays continue to celebrate their tenth anniversary and, for a weekend, are leaving the Olympic Park for the Old Port of Montreal. On this occasion, the street food festival has planned only the best. Overview.

Toast to ten years of existence! In August, the not-to-be-missed Montreal street food event The First Fridays puts the dishes in the big ones with a program ” best of of three days at the Quai de l’Horloge this time, after having already honored Mexico and Brazil this year and while waiting for Vietnamese flavors and those of Soul Food in the coming months. Since 2012, his success has not dried up. The festival indeed invests the esplanade of the Olympic Park from June to October and brings together some 3000 guests per evening on this huge ephemeral terrace. They can, from year to year, delight in a varied cuisine offered by some fifty restaurateurs in food trucks in an atmosphere that is always inclusive.

During the very first weekend of August, the party will be at its peak and promises to be grandiose with several musical performances, including those of Soraï, Ketsmy, Malia Laura and Bel and Quinn, but also a privileged view of the Loto Québec bonfires on Sunday, August 7.

The Little Vibe

The famous snack bar Filipino-American, formerly located in Côte-des-Neiges and now based at the Central, is among the guests of honor of the First Fridays of August. The establishment, which will obviously be present in a food truckoffers in particular birria Tacos, where beef, cheese and tomato giniling sauce, typically Filipino, mix subtly in a tortilla, just like lumpias, a kind of egg roll, Hawaiian moco locos, burgers and hot dogs also with very Filipino flavors, and their famous tater tots and macaroni salad. Decidedly an unmissable of the 10e edition of the festival!

Ono Pokii

The First Fridays will also take the most gourmet visitors far into international gastronomy, heading to Hawaii. Ono Pokii, second guest of honor for the tenth anniversary of the festival, which is located in Westmount, prepares delicious ultra-fresh poke bowls in the purest of Pacific archipelago traditions. There are also several soups and ramens, including the Hawaiian Saimin, where noodles, grilled chicken, carrots, corn, kale, red peppers, shallots and grilled seaweed come together on the plate. Ono Pokii is no exception to the bubble tea frenzy with countless make-it-yourself versions.

Spice Bros.

The Spice Bros, which can be found in the Montreal agglomeration at several addresses, will also be entitled to a place of choice at the First Fridays. This other guest of honour, represented at the Quai de l’Horloge by a food truck eagerly awaited, offers Indian cuisine with ultra-modern… and Quebec influences! Their signature dish is undoubtedly the butter chicken poutine, a fusion of these two opposite specialties that mixes spicy fries and cheese curds bathed in the delicate Indian dish. Naan breads, samosas and a fried chicken sandwich, also with butter sauce, are also on the menu.

boba boba

Tapioca pearl teas originating in Taiwan, and available all over Asia, will be popular on First Fridays with the presence of the Boba Boba stand. With three locations in Montreal, including one on Sainte-Catherine Street, Boba Boba has so many recipes from bubble tea on his card that there is even a top 10 ! From traditional milk boba to more funky with caramelized sugar, melon or even fruit jelly, including those with yogurt or tornado cream for the biggest appetites, the least we can say is that everyone will be able to find their pearl there rare.

Grandpa Churros

An emblematic dessert of street food, the churro is highlighted several times during the celebrations of the ten years of First Fridays. This is particularly the case with Papi Churros, who will park his food truck traveling in the Old Port of Montreal on this occasion. Le Papi Churros, who claims to make the best churros in Quebec, prepares the most classic recipes, dulce de leche for example, to the most extravagant, like these incredible soft ice creams engulfed in a cone of churro, of course, and topped with toppings, each one sweeter than the other.
