Tuesday, June 14, a plane carrying asylum seekers from the United Kingdom to Rwanda did not leave, due to appeals to the courts.
Tuesday, June 14, a flight of migrants was to leave the United Kingdom for an imminent departure to Rwanda. However, the plane did not take off, as last-minute appeals canceled the deportation of these asylum seekers. The European Court of Human Rights has thus expressed its disagreement. The British government’s plan angers many associations. In Calais (Pas-de-Calais), migrants continue to rush to go to the United Kingdom, 450 of them would have crossed the Channel on Tuesday, the highest figure for two months.
The United Kingdom has decided to deport to Rwanda anyone who entered British soil illegally. “Our fellow citizens must be surprised to see European judges deciding instead of British judges”, said Thérèse Coffey, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. The United Kingdom paid 140 million euros to Rwanda to convince it to welcome its asylum seekers for five years.
