The first fireworks display of the International des Feux Loto-Québec 2023 is canceled due to smog

Due to the poor air quality expected in Montreal, La Ronde is canceling the first evening of fireworks at the International des Feux Loto-Québec on Thursday.

The pyromusical show entitled Tribute Boy&Girl Bandsby the firm Royal Pyrotechnie, will not be postponed, due to “the logistics surrounding other stakeholders who ensure security on our site, on the banks or the Jacques-Cartier bridge”, specifies La Ronde in a press release.

Scheduled for the opening of the competition, which runs until August 9, the show was to take place on Thursday at 10 p.m.

A smog warning has been in effect since Wednesday evening in part of Quebec, and in particular in Montreal, due to high concentrations of fine particles from forest fires.

“Smoke from wildfires can be harmful to everyone’s health, even at low concentrations. Everyone can take steps to reduce their exposure to wildfire smoke,” Environment Canada says in its warning.

La Ronde indicates that it made the decision to cancel the performance following a recommendation from the Regional Public Health Department, “the health of Montrealers and Quebecers being everyone’s priority”.

The next pyromusical show, July 6, presented by Ukraine, the first country of this 37th international competition, is for the moment maintained.

The La Ronde amusement park nevertheless remains open to the public on Thursday.
