Egypt agreed on Wednesday, November 1, to allow some Palestinian civilians to return to its territory, in particular the wounded and dual nationals. They took the only possible passage, that of the Rafah border post.
The gate opens before them, Wednesday November 1st. It’s relief and a form of liberation. Men, women and children walk towardsEEgypt after 26 days. “Our embassy contacted us at 2 a.m. to tell us that we were going to leave. Communication cut off, we didn’t know what was going to happen”, explains a Jordanian national. On Wednesday morning, crowds flocked to the Rafah crossing at dawn. The list of those authorized to leave contained nearly of 600 names.

Foreigners and dual nationals are anxious. Aid workers are leaving. The faces are closed. By telephone, René Elterarchaeologist authorized to leave, testifies: “We are in the tension of the passage, it’s very complicated. People were fighting, it’s very very difficult.” Ambulances are waiting along the corridor on the Palestinian side. They take 76 wounded towards theEEgypt. Foreigners and dual nationals hope to escape from Gaza in the coming days.
