In France, the next step in the fight against Covid-19 is the generalized vaccination of children aged 5 to 11. From Wednesday, December 15, the most fragile will be able to benefit from a first dose.
A new vaccine with an orange cap, reserved for children. Tuesday, December 14, 1.9 million pediatric doses will leave the plant in Puurs, Belgium, to 115 delivery points in France, including hospitals and vaccinodromes. The vaccines will be three times weaker for children, which constitutes sufficient protection according to Christophe Batard, pediatrician: “The effects are similar in terms of benefits and side effects with this dosage.”
As of Wednesday, December 15, only children deemed to be at risk aged 5 to 11 will be able to receive their first dose. In all, 360,000 children are affected, especially those with a heart defect or liver disease. Children living with immunocompromised or frail people are also eligible. Other countries like Canada, the United States or Israel already allow all children to be vaccinated. France is waiting for additional data. Subject to scientific advice, the government has planned to extend vaccination to all children before the end of the year.
