The fire which has ravaged 7,000 hectares of forest since July 12 in La Teste-de-Buch (Gironde), in the Bassin d’Arcachon, is “fixed”, said the prefecture of the department on Saturday July 23. The other fire which broke out the same day in Gironde, in the Landiras sector, for which a judicial investigation was opened, and which burned 13,800 hectares of forest, is not yet fixed, added the prefecture in a press release.
Two Canadair and two forest fire attack helicopters remain mobilized, the “columns of extra-zonal firefighters return to their department gradually”, assured the press release. More than 19,000 additional evacuees will be able to return home this Saturday as authorities reopen “new municipalities in the Landiras sector, and the whole of the municipality of La Teste-de-Buch”. In Landiras, the fire “remains contained but not yet fixed due to the risk of resumptions”. Thirty homes are still active.
