The fire spread with spectacular speed. The death toll from the fire in a fourteen-story residential building in Valencia, Spain, has risen further. At least ten people died, said the prefect of the region, during a press briefing, Friday February 23. Four of the victims were members of the same family: the father, the mother, a 3-year-old girl and a newborn. The fire also injured 15 people, including seven firefighters. Nine of them, including five firefighters, were hospitalized, but their lives are not in danger.

Firefighters were able to gain access inside and inspect the apartments. The fire broke out around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, on the fourth floor of this building built around fifteen years ago and comprising 138 apartments, before spreading at high speed to the other floors through the facade. Esther Puchades, number two of the regional association of industrial engineers, questioned the presence on the facade of a polyurethane coating, which is very flammable.
