The FIQ and the FAE still on strike

The strikes of the Interprofessional Health Federation (FIQ) and the Autonomous Education Federation (FAE) continued on Friday, while the three-day strike of the Common Front ended Thursday evening.

Only the FAE, which represents 66,000 primary and secondary teachers, is on indefinite strike.

The FIQ, which represents 80,000 nurses, practical nurses, respiratory therapists and clinical perfusionists, is holding another two-day walkout, Thursday and Friday, affecting the vast majority of health establishments in Quebec.

For the moment, the Public Sector Inter-Union Common Front and the FIQ are not announcing new strike days.

“For the moment, we want to give the negotiation a chance. But we remain ready,” the FIQ said on Friday.

As for the Common Front, which is made up of the FTQ, the CSN, the CSQ and the APTS, it must meet on Sunday to take stock of the negotiations, after having held three other days of strike this week. Its 420,000 members were therefore back at work on Friday.

Negotiations for the renewal of collective agreements continue with the government of Quebec. On Thursday, Prime Minister François Legault said he was ready to improve his offer if the unions concerned showed more “flexibility” in the organization of work.

They replied that they were waiting to see what this improved offer would include before commenting. They already felt they were showing “flexibility”.
