This Tuesday, March 2, the Council of Ministers adopted the ordinance for the creation of the “Société du Grand Projet du Sud-Ouest”. This local public establishment will make it possible to collectively finance the infrastructure linked to the railway project. This is a major step towards the completion of the high-speed line between Toulouse and Bordeaux. The LGV will put Paris at 3 hours 10 from Toulouse against a little more than 4 hours today. A project that will cost 14 billion euros.
Satisfaction of local elected officials
A step forward hailed by the president of the Occitanie region Carole Delga : “This local public establishment will allow us to collectively finance these infrastructures – new lines and improvements to existing lines in Toulouse and Bordeaux – which are resolutely essential for daily trains, for Occitanie and the greater south-west of Europe more broadly. “
The President of the Departmental Council of Haute-Garonne Georges Meric welcomes progress “which will make it possible to connect Toulouse to the capital in 3h10 and to place the 4th city of France in the rank of European capital.” He also mentions “a tremendous asset to open up and strengthen the attractiveness of our territory”.
The mayor of Toulouse Jean-Luc Moudenc mentions for his parta great satisfaction for the inhabitants of Toulouse but also for all the inhabitants of the Greater South-West”. For him, “the project is moving forward and with it the prospect of improving the quality of the rail service in our territories, a mode of transport whose environmental benefits are considerable.”
A project partly financed by local authorities
Last autumn, the Occitan local authorities concerned validated the financing of the Toulouse-Bordeaux LGV: they confirmed their participation in the project, up to 3 billion euros, including 1.2 coming from the Occitanie region. The State has committed up to 4.1 billion.
The start of work on the LGV is scheduled for 2024. It should be commissioning in 2030.
