Director Luc Besson, father of Maïwenn’s daughter, is accused of rape by actress Sand Van Roy.
After deciding to be silent on the Daily set, Maïwenn finally speaks. The director explains in the Sunday newspaper (JDD), published on Sunday June 11, attacking the co-founder of Mediapart, Edwy Plenel, for the publication of his “hearing” in the case of Luc Besson, father of her daughter, accused of rape by actress Sand Van Roy.
“I do not blame Mediapart for the investigations they carried out concerning Luc Besson. I blame them for what they did to me”launches Maïwenn (her name, Le Besco, is not used, she signs her films with her first name alone) in the JDD.
The filmmaker and actress assures that she met a journalist from Mediapart at the end of 2018 about the investigation of this media on Luc Besson, her former husband and father of her daughter, whom she says no longer frequents “for 20 years”. The director then tells the journalist that she does not want “speak”. But, at the beginning of 2021, Mediapart publishes “an article with scraps of (her) hearing” made in June 2020 before the judicial police. “It’s a cataclysm. (…) I felt a moral rape”emphasizes Maïwenn. “If nothing justifies attacking a journalist, nothing justifies violating a woman’s privacy”she adds again.
The Court of Cassation will deliver its decision on June 21 on the rape charges against Luc Besson, which were dismissed, confirmed on appeal. The director proclaims his innocence.
Edwy Plenel heard two weeks ago
Maïwenn had already publicly admitted in May, in the Quotidien program (TMC), having attacked Edwy Plenel, refusing to explain himself. Edwy Plenel had filed a complaint in March, which AFP was able to consult, against the actress and director for this attack.
“A woman, previously seated alone at another table (in a Parisian restaurant) appeared and in a very short time violently grabbed (Edwy Plenel) by the hair, throwing his head back and sketching a spit on his face”, can we read there. Maïwenn was then identified by the restaurant staff.
“An investigation is open. Edwy Plenel was heard two weeks ago. The other witnesses are being heard”the journalist’s lawyer, Pierre-Emmanuel Blard, told AFP in mid-May.
