The Film Festival is back. From Sunday July 3 to Wednesday July 6, moviegoers can enjoy the dark rooms for 4 euros. An event that comes at the right time at a time when the French are deserting the rooms, faced with inflation and soaring prices. One of the main reasons for not returning to the cinema is the rising cost of living“, assures the International Union of Cinemas (UNIC) in an annual report.

Thus, French theaters sold 62 million tickets in the first five months, a third less than in 2019, according to figures from the National Center for Cinematography and the Moving Image (CNC).

Beyond the loss of habit of going to dark rooms, it is the price of tickets followed by the lack of interest in films and competition with streaming which explains the absence of the French, according to a survey of the CNC. Cinemas were still able to count on blockbusters to make up for this difficult start to the year, like Top Gun: maverick which already counts more than 3.8 million admissions, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness or Tea Batman.

This new edition of the Film Festival is eagerly awaited by theater operators to reconnect with their customers. The opportunity to reinforce the success of films still showing as the biopic Elvisthe adventures of the dinosaurs of Jurassic Word: The world after. But also to take advantage of small French novelties, as Crossing of Variant Soujian and Irreducible by Jérôme Commandeur, grand prize at the Alpe-d’Huez festival.

Film Festival 2022, from July 3 to 6, 4 euros per session.
