After collecting more than $178 million at the worldwide box office during its first days in theaters last weekend, the new science fiction film by Quebec filmmaker Denis Villeneuve had another strong weekend in theaters by raising more than 127 million at box office around the world.
Result of the races: in less than two weeks on display, Dune: Part Two has already accumulated revenues of $367.5 million at the worldwide box office.
At this rate, the rest of Dune should quickly surpass the total revenues of the first film in the saga, which amassed $434 million at the global box office when it was released in theaters in October 2021.
A Villeneuve effect
Moreover, Dune: Part Two seems to benefit from a Villeneuve effect in Montreal cinemas.
According to statistics from the specialist firm Exhibitor Relations, three cinemas in the metropolitan region are in the top 10 establishments in North America where Dune: Part Two attracted the most moviegoers this weekend. These are Cineplex Forum, Banque Scotia and Laval.
Cinemas in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Toronto are also on this list.
