The risk of an epidemic looms over the city of Derna (Libya). “UN agencies have indicated that there is a strong risk of an epidemic after this heavy disaster which cost the lives of thousands of Libyans. Men in white roam the streets in the east of the country. As soon as a body is discovered, it is placed in a bag and evacuated. A week after the floods, the risks of epidemics are on everyone’s minds, like cholera. “Access points to water are polluted”, emphasizedne Olivier Road, director of operations of the NGO Première Urgence Internationale. Derna receives aid from Tripoli, the capital in the west of the country, despite political divisions between the two places. Many countries also provide aid to Libya.
