While members of the Raid and GIGN are expected on the island and the government and local elected officials are due to meet on Monday, November 22, the violence in Guadeloupe does not seem not weaken. Live from Pointe-à-Pitre, Cristelle Théophile, journalist Guadeloupe la 1ste, decrypted the situation there.
After several nights of violence, a feeling of slight calm was felt on Sunday, November 21 after the unblocking of certain roadblocks. In the south of the island, dismantling operations took place under high voltage. Yet not all areas could be freeds, cike in the commune of Baie-Mahault, where traffic is still hampered. Despite the curfew in place, residents fear another night of violent riots.
Local elected officials and the prefecture have given no information on the number of police and gendarmes who have arrived in Guadeloupe. The elected officials of the region had, however, affirmed that these reinforcements would arrive before the end of the weekend. Last night 38 people were questioned. Monday, November 22, schools, colleges and high schools will be closed.
