Increase the school allowance “in connection with inflation, it is necessary and essential”said Tuesday, June 21 on franceinfo Eric Labastie, secretary general of the FCPE (Federation of Parents’ Councils) which warns of the outbreak of school supplies and requests an increase in the back-to-school allowance (ARS).

>> “Pleasure purchases” or “money well spent”: how is the back-to-school allowance used?

“Prices can vary by 10% to 40% depending on the supplies”, be it paper, notebooks, pens, binders. On the school catering side, “we suspect an increase of 5% to 10%, which is very important for some families”, continues Eric the secretary general of the FCPE, the first federation of parents of students. This inflation is due to the shortage of raw materials.

The FCPE believes that it is necessary “a reflection on the payment of the allowance so that it is as suitable as possible and that purchases are made as soon as possible”. The ideal would be to pay it “at the beginning of July so that families can build their budget” and not at the end of August.

The back-to-school allowance amounts to €376.98 for children aged 6 to 10, €397.78 for those aged 11 to 14 and €411.56 for adolescents aged 15 to 18 years old. The ARS is intended to mitigate the cost of back to school for families.
