The Austrian far-right arrived on Sunday September 29, well ahead of the legislative elections with nearly 29% of the votes. However, the party is by no means assured of being in power.
Herbert Kickl is triumphant, Sunday September 29. The president of the FPÖ, the Austrian far-right party, came clearly in the lead in the legislative elections with 28.8% of the votes, unheard of since 1945. “It’s a piece of history that we wrote today”he declared in front of his supporters. Antivax, climate skeptic, Herbert Kickl above all campaigned against immigration. He promises to stop all requests for asylum and to strip nationality of naturalized people who attack the values of the country.
Despite the fact that his ideas bring together more and more people, the announcement of the results also aroused the concern of part of the population. But even if he came first, the president of the FPÖ will have to find allies to form a majority. Problem: no one accepts. His party includes elected officials nostalgic for fascism. Several were identified at funerals where they sang a Nazi song to the glory of the German Reich.
