On Wednesday November 22, the PVV, Freedom Party, came first in the legislative elections in the Netherlands. Far-right party leader Geert Wilders welcomes historic victory
Power is now within his reach. Thursday November 23, Geert Wilders toast to his victory. His hair, like his ideas, resemble those of Donald Trump. Geert Wilders already sees himself as Prime Minister of the Netherlands, with a clearly far-right road map. “Dutch first, stricter asylum policy, national housing preference and more money in your wallets”, proclaims the leader of the PVV (Freedom Party). His party won 37 seats on Wednesday, November 22, during the legislative elections, double its score in the last elections.
Geert Wilders faces the challenge of forming a coalition
In the Nederlands, Geert Wilders is known to everyone, especially for his crusade against Muslims and immigrants. In 2017, the populist dared everything, including video montages associating Islam and terrorism. To win, the populist had muted his anti-Islam diatribes. “If I become Prime Minister, I will be for all Dutch people, regardless of their identity, gender or religion”, he asserted. During the campaign, his opponents all proposed a round of screw migration, which uninhibited some voters.
HAS Venlo, 36% residents voted for Geert Wilderswith immigrants in their sights. “They take advantage of us, people who have worked for 60 years. They come and they can have everything”deplores a woman. Geert Wilders must convince his rivals to form a coalition. The left clearly refused. On the right, nothing is decided.
