Sunday, March 10, there was an explosion of joy among supporters of the center-right in Portugal. The results of the legislative elections are clear: the democratic alliance 29.5% of the votes and becomes the leading political force in the country. The significant breakthrough of the far right is the other major lesson of the election. The Chega party, “enough” in Portuguese, came third with 18% of the votes, twice as much as two years ago.

48 deputies

With 48 elected officials, the party quadruples its number of deputies. This result is historic for its leader André Ventura. “What a great night we experienced today. (…) It was the night when bipartisanship ended in Portugal”, he assured his supporters. These elections put an end to eight years of power for the Socialist Party. He finished second with 28.6% of the votes.
