“The Family Album Featuring Russell Clepper”, Emilie Clepper

It had been a long time since we had heard of Emilie Clepper, she who had been part of the great adventure All the Girls and who had ended up getting tired of leading such a confidential career. Here she is again, because the music is in her. Forever and ever. We now understand why: her father, Russell Clepper, a singer-songwriter like her, takes his songs from Texas to the entire continent (within several groups) and as far as Quebec. Think of the late Townes Van Zandt: that kind of Americana. An album together is what Emilie needed to make herself want to want again! There is such a naturalness in the meeting of these voices, so much beauty to share in this more than little-known repertoire. Joe Grass’s production and arrangements, discreet but perfect in the family landscape, leave space for the old man and his daughter to exist separately as well as to stick together tightly. And there is a song in French so as not to forget where Emilie built her house.
