Harassed daily in her college, Lindsay killed herself on May 12, 2023 in the evening, at her home. Four minors have been indicted for “school harassment leading to suicide”, announced the Béthune prosecutor, while an adult has been indicted for “death threats”. Since then, they have all been placed under judicial supervision. A story that shocks the whole of France and that continues to make people react.
A few weeks after Lindsay’s suicide, another college student, Lucas, killed himself after months and months of harassment. More and more worrying deaths which obviously arouse many reactions. Guest this Wednesday, June 7 in the show “media culture” on European 1, Christophe Willem took advantage of his visit to discuss the subject. The winner of the “New Star”, was also the victim of school harassment in his schooling.

“I was never Rambo, I arrived with a high-pitched voice, it sounded like Annette (character from the sitcom Premiers Baisers, ed.), plus I was already really mannered, so I was stigmatized”he explained to Philippe Vandel before letting go: “It was a bit like the ‘queer’ of the playground, at a time when you have no sexuality. I was 10 or 11 years old, you have no sexuality and you are given a label… and you don’t even know why you are actually being criticized”.
“It was super violent, school harassment”remembers the one who will soon appear in “Domestic scenes”before revealing that he had been the victim of physical violence. However, he says he never felt the need to behave like a victim: “It’s part of my story and I never wanted to be like ‘Oh dear, life is hard!’, because I think we grow from everything we’ve been through”. “It is useless to put under the rug the balls that we drag on our feet, it is better to assume them fully”, he concluded. Hoping that his speech manages to give strength to people in a similar situation, but above all that the government takes measures to prevent another tragedy from happening.
