Before his victory, Sébastien Haller, who distinguished himself for Ivory Coast during the African Cup of Nations, won a battle against cancer.
Scorer in the final and semi-final of the African Cup of Nations (CAN), Sébastien Haller is the idol of the Ivorians. He allowed his country to add a third star to its jersey, a third CAN in the history of Côte d’Ivoire. And yet, if we go back to July 2022, his destiny goes from dream to nightmare in a few days. On July 6, 2022, he signed for 31 million euros for Borussia Dortmund, a major German football club, from Ajax Amsterdam.
Six months after starting treatment, he will play football again
Sébastien Haller, the Franco-Ivorian, born in the Paris region, then lived a dream: he replaced star Erling Haaland in the German club. Living in the hotel, he had stomach complaints for a few days. An MRI was done and he was coldly diagnosed with testicular cancer. His world is falling apart. The treatment begins immediately, Sébastien Haller keeps his spirits up. Just six months after starting treatment, he will play football again. It is the end of January 2023. Since then, he has become an African champion, an extraordinary model for all those people affected by this disease, explains France Télévisions journalist Karim Bennani.
