The extraordinary photographic collection of the Deval family handed over to the Valence archives

It took several days to transport everything to the Archives of the city and the agglo de Valence in the basement of the media library, place Latour Maubourg. Started on Friday, the move ended on Monday. And for good reason. More than 80,000 pieces were donated by the Deval family. These photos and negatives, even glass plates for the oldest shots, were accumulated by the Deval family of photographers, André and then his son Pierre. They are precious testimonies of the history of Valencia since 1949.

70 years of Valencian history

When it was handed over to the Archives, Pierre Deval recognized “a bit of emotion”. “It is a very important photographic fund” emphasizes the photographer, “It was complicated for us to keep and exploit it. I’m so happy that it can serve Valence and the Valentinois and that there is continuity over time.”

The Archives estimate that it will take at least a year to classify and reference all these photographs. All documents will then be accessible to the public.
