As the deportation of migrants to Mayotte began, the Comoros blocked their port to French boats. The operation therefore promises to be difficult from a security and diplomatic point of view, as Mathieu Boisseau explains on the spot.
The deportation of migrants to Mayotte is frowned upon by the Comoros. Indeed, many of the migrants targeted by the operation come from this archipelago. The authorities have closed the port of Anjouan (Comoros). The announcement was made suddenly at the beginning of the afternoon by the commander of the Comorian port. “A three-day closure officially for work. It was therefore impossible to dock. A boat from Mayotte had to turn around”explains Mathieu Boisseau.
Security and diplomatic conflict
AT On board, some of the passengers were expelled Comorian migrants. “For several days, the Comorian government has explained that it does not wish to welcome more deported nationals than it did before the start of the operation”, he adds. The French authorities explain that in this file, the interests of the two countries are the same. This conflict will therefore be played out as much on the security level as on the diplomatic level.
