On November 10, 2022, Cyril Hanouna received on the set of the program “Touche pas à mon poste”, the deputy Nupes Louis Boyard. Came to give his opinion on Gérald Darmanin’s decision to welcome shipwrecked migrants, the 22-year-old young man had then lost his temper and had not hesitated to openly criticize Vincent Bolloré, a famous businessman who holds the multinational Bolloré… company to which the Canal Plus group and therefore the C8 channel belongs.
Surprised and annoyed, Cyril Hanouna had first tried to ask his host not to show ingratitude. “I don’t have the right to say publicly that Bolloré is on trial because of the deforestation he is causing? Are you really saying that to a deputy?” then chanted Louis Boyard before raising his voice and accusing the host of being racist or even of having “danced on the murder of Lola”.
Enough to provoke the anger of Cyril Hanouna who had ended up insulting the young deputy by calling him a “fucker”, “shit”, or even a “buffoon” live. Furious when he left the premises of the C8 channel, Louis Boyard quickly announced his intention to file a complaint against Cyril Hanouna.
The C8 channel sentenced to a heavy fine
This Thursday, February 9, 2023, Arcom (the regulatory authority for audiovisual and digital communication, editor’s note) imposed a sanction on the C8 channel: a fine amounting to 3.5 million euros. The authority considered that these remarks “infringed the rights of the guest, the respect of his honor and his reputation, in disregard of the stipulations of article 2-3-4 of the service agreement. She also considered that “this sequence reflected a lack of knowledge by the publisher of its obligation to control its antenna, listed in article 2-2-1 of its agreement”.
Secondly, Arcom also gave the channel formal notice to comply in the future with the stipulations of article 2-3-8 of its agreement relating to the honesty and independence of information. and programs that contribute to it, because Louis Boyard would, according to her, have been prevented from expressing a critical point of view.
Cyril Hanouna reacts to the decision
From the start of his show this Thursday, Cyril Hanouna said on set that the channel took “note of Arcom’s decision”: “We will not comment and we reserve the right to see what we will do behind” he said before adding: “C8 is there, C8 is still there for a long time”.
