Last April, 80 children fell ill after eating Kinder eggs contaminated with salmonella, a bacterium that causes severe gastroenteritis. For the first time since the scandalthe boss of Ferrero spoke. “What happened is not acceptable. We’re sorry, I’m sorry”said Nicolas Neykov, Managing Director France of Ferreroto Parisian last Thursday, May 26.
And that’s not enough for the families of the victims. “The CEO of Ferrero tells us: ‘we’re sorry, but it’s not our fault’. The families I represent, whose children have been hospitalized for several days, cannot be satisfied with these answers which are vague answers and where Ferrero washes away any fault”estimated Jérémy Kalfon, lawyer for fourteen families whose children were contaminated with salmonella, at the microphone of BFM-TV.
“That he apologizes is good, but we must not neglect all the families who have been affected, the suffering that it has caused. (…) Apologies are not enough”explained Romain Vue, father of an infected child still at the microphone of BFM-TV.
But in the statements of Nicolas Neykov, there were not only excuses. The boss recalled that these cases of contamination had given rise to the “biggest product recall in the past 20 years” and promised compensation for each family, according to different criteria. “The length of hospitalization, the presence or absence of sequelae,” he said.
