Released a little over a year ago in exchange for 200 jihadists, the ex-hostage in Mali, Sophie Pétronin, has returned to the site. The Malian authorities are looking for him.

Hostage in Mali for nearly four years, Sophie Pétronin was released on October 8, 2020. On her arrival in France, her son, Sébastien, had let out a heart-rending cry. But their reunion did not last. Barely free, the Frenchwoman already dreamed of returning to Mali. In all discretion, she finally returned there five months later, without a visa and with the help of her son. “She decided, in her soul and conscience, to go against all odds to find her daughter, who lives in Bamako”, explains Anthony Fouchard, journalist and author of the book All it takes is one hope.

Her 19-year-old daughter, Zeinabou, was adopted by Sophie Pétronin when she was a child. The ex-hostage lived for more than 20 years in Mali, his country of heart. For eight months, she has lived in the capital. The gendarmerie has published a search notice and the Frenchwoman must be apprehended if she is found. For what reasons ? Irregular situation, risk to his safety … For the time being, the Malian authorities have not communicated further.
