“All 27, in a joint statement, (…) call for immediate humanitarian pauses, in order to facilitate the arrival of aid to Gaza, because Gaza needs more aid from all points of view“, declared Josep Borrell, Vice-President of the European Commission. Semantic debate
For Sylvain Kahn, professor at Sciences Po, specialist in European issues, this declaration does not bring “nothing new, compared to what has been said for 15 days”. “There is a whole semantic debate, are we asking for a humanitarian pause, are we asking for a ceasefire?“, explains Sylvain Kahn, on the set of 19/20, Monday November 13. “When Borrell says that they (EU member states) are asking for or advocating a humanitarian pause, this means that the EU position has been constant since the start of the conflict“, he believes.
