Good news on the employment front in Europe. The unemployment rate in the euro zone remained unchanged in June, with 6.6% of the labor force looking for work, Eurostat announced on Monday 1 August. This rate of 6.6%, the historic low of the euro zone, already recorded in May, had been reached in April, according to revised figures from Eurostat. The indicator is at its lowest since the European statistics office started compiling data in April 1998.

For the whole of the European Union, the unemployment rate was 6.0%. Over one year in June, the unemployment rate fell by 1.3 points in the euro zone and by 1.2 in the EU. The highest unemployment rates in June were recorded in Spain (12.6%), Greece (12.3%), Italy (8.1%) and Sweden (7.6%). In France, 7.2% of the active population was unemployed, according to Eurostat data. The Czech Republic (2.4%), Poland (2.7%) and Germany (2.8%) had the lowest rates.
