Technology: the European Union will regulate artificial intelligence for the first time: – (FRANCEINFO)
The European Union has just agreed on a text which should promote innovation in Europe, while limiting possible abuses. The appearance of ChatGPT in particular revealed to the general public the immense potential of artificial intelligence (AI), but also its risks.
It is a historic political agreement, according to European lawmakers. The objective: to supervise the development of artificial intelligence (AI), starting with generative AI, these systems capable of generating media in response to guests, such as ChatGPT. Rules will be required to ensure the quality of the data used in the development of algorithms and to verify that they do not violate copyright legislation.
Rules to respect
Measures are also planned for companies using high-risk artificial intelligence in sensitive areas such as education, human resources or law enforcement. They will now have to provide for human control of the machine, the establishment of technical documentation or even the implementation of a risk management system.
The policy must be supplemented by technical work to finalize the text. The tech sector is critical, with some companies denouncing a text with potentially disastrous consequences for the European economy.
