The European Union grants 270 million euros in aid to Armenia

This aid program is in addition to a European investment plan for this Caucasian country.

The European Union will grant aid of 270 million euros to Armenia, formerly a traditional ally of Russia, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced on Friday April 5 in Brussels (Belgium). .

“We are implementing a promise made in October” with this “growth plan” in the form of loans over four years, she told the press, in the presence of the Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinian, the American Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell.

The Caucasian country’s long-standing ties with Russia have weakened since Azerbaijan, its historic enemy, seized the Armenian enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh last September.

This aid program comes in addition to a European investment plan for this Caucasian country which has already “mobilized more than half a billion euros”clarified Ursula von der Leyen. “We want Armenia to take its place as a strong, independent nation, at peace with its neighbors and connected to the world”said Antony Blinken for his part.
