Glitter is certainly shiny, but also very polluting. Europe has decided to gradually ban its sale.
Glitter is doomed to disappear from the lives of the French. In a creative hobby store, the manager, Caroline Gazages, has to sell off her last stocks. These plastic flakes, which too often end up in nature, are now banned by the European Union. “It bothers me a little because glitter is pretty. But if it’s for the environment, it’s better to ban“, reasons a customer.
Eradicate microplastics
Beyond glitter, Europe will ban micro plastics for many other products: in certain detergents, on synthetic sports fields or as a texturing agent in makeup. These plastics must disappear within 12 years. “They are found from the poles to the bottom of the ocean floors.“, recalls Henri Bourgeois-Costa, plastic pollution expert at the Tara Océan foundation.
