Soon a new vaccine against Covid-19? The European Medicines Agency (EMA) announced on Tuesday March 29 the launch of the review procedure for the vaccine against Covid-19 from the Spanish multinational Hipra.

“Preliminary results suggest that the immune response to the Spanish Hipra vaccine may be effective against Sars-CoV-2, including variants of concern such as Omicron”says a press release (in English) of the EMA.

The Agency did not specify the time that the study procedure for this first Spanish vaccine, called PHH-1V, would take. Hipra must obtain the approval of the EMA before being able to apply for the marketing of its vaccine in the 27 countries of the European Union.

PHH-1V is based on the recombinant protein process, a formula also used for the candidate vaccine from the French laboratory Sanofi and the British GSK. It’s a vaccine “which prepares the body to defend itself” against Covid-19, writes the EMA. It combines two specific types of proteins used by the coronavirus to enter host cells in the human body.
