“For me, the ethics of the caregiver is to protect themselves to protect the patients they take care of”declared François Braun, Minister of Health, on Monday May 15 on franceinfo, while caregivers who have not been vaccinated against Covid can be reinstated in the same position or in a position “equivalent” from now on. “This reintegration of caregivers is based on scientific elements and ethical elements. And from an ethical point of view, each caregiver must ask themselves questions on a personal basis”he estimated.

The number of caregivers concerned by this reintegration is probably quite small. “We estimate around 3,000. It’s quite difficult to have the exact figure”said François Braun, adding that the estimate was “very far” of the 15,000 suspended men mentioned at the time of the obligation to vaccinate against Covid-19 in August 2021. It is difficult to know precisely how many people have since left their post. “A certain number have already made it known that they want to return to their service. In total, the obligation to be vaccinated had been required of the 2.7 million people, whether they were in direct contact with the sick – caregivers, nurses, doctors, paramedics, home helpers, firefighters – or even indirectly, such as the administrative staff of healthcare establishments.
