As a precaution, most of the forests of the Var and the Alpes-Maritimes are closed to the public on the weekend of August 6, due to the risk of fire. Report in the Estérel massif, which remains under very high surveillance.

Signs prohibiting access to pedestrians were changed early in the morning of Saturday August 6 at all the entrances to a park in Théoule-sur-Mer, in the Alpes-Maritimes. But a family of vacationers did not notice them. “We took a half-hour round trip, we stayed on the trail”says a man.

On their way, they could have come across Pierre and Annick, who are part of the municipal civil security reserve. Three times a day, volunteers from the village crisscross the slopes of the Estérel in times of severe fire risk. They make sure that no visitors venture here. It has not rained for months in the massif. The floors are dry, a simple spark could cause a fire to start. To avoid the worst, the firefighters are posted in surveillance in the heart of the park in the surroundings.
