This is a new instruction that they will have to take into account when ordering a drink in a bar or restaurant. It is now forbidden to consume standing, a ban in force for three weeks. Customers of a bar in Paris do not seem convinced by this measure. “There is no more risk standing than sitting. It is incomprehensible”, estimates a customer interviewed.
Restaurant owners will now have to check that their customers are properly seated when they consume what they have ordered. Some professionals also fear having to face new losses. “It’s going to be very, very complicated”, confides a boss of a bar in the Hérault. Despite the ban, a Parisian client resists and insists on drinking her coffee standing up. “We are in the process of suppressing all the joys which seem futile but which are necessary for the general atmosphere of our society”, she denounces.
